What if I asked you to share a daily habit of self-care. Is that even a thing for you?
Commit to Self-Care
Self-care refers to deliberate actions and practices undertaken by individuals to prioritize their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It involves recognizing one’s needs and taking active steps to fulfill them in order to maintain overall health and prevent burnout. Self-care can encompass a wide range of activities, behaviors, and practices, tailored to an individual’s preferences and requirements. Some key components of self-care include physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and communal dimensions.
Intentional days create a life on purpose.

Habit as Practice
Each day we have the opportunity to make our day a success, a reflection of what we value most, or evidence that we “walk our talk”. Each day we have an opportunity to make decisions, to act on choices, and to positively influence those around us. This is our life’s work.
Taking the time to explore, to become familiar with, to know what we value and appreciate most helps us to stay the course, to resist the common drift away from intentional, centered INSPIRED LIVING. Harmonizing our daily actions and intentions with our ethics and values, or as I call it, “learning to live in alignment” is the truest example of a life lived well. Learning to live in alignment is the practice which supports the actions of “OnPurpose Living” or living your life’s work.
A healthy habit is any behavior or action that contributes positively to your overall well-being, whether it’s physical, mental, emotional, or social. I like to use the term “practice” as it helps me to remember that it doesn’t have to perfect for it to be beneficial or effective. In fact, as a recovering perfectionist, I have been known to get too focused on perfection at the cost of my health.
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Continue to learn. Do what you love.
Live as if this is all there is.

Choose Vitality: Live Vibrantly!
Healthy habits are typically sustainable practices incorporated into your daily routine to promote a healthier lifestyle. Yoga is a powerful practice because it integrates many, if not all, of these components. In the simplest of ideas, living well is three simple habits: Breathe-Move-Rest. To live vibrantly, we customize and adapt our practices according to our daily capacity.
Here are some specific examples of healthy habits:
Hydration: Drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day is important for maintaining proper hydration, supporting digestion, regulating body temperature, and promoting healthy skin.
Stress Management: Practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, yoga, or mindfulness can help reduce stress levels and promote a sense of calm and balance.
Adequate Sleep: Getting enough high-quality sleep each night is essential for physical and mental well-being. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night to allow your body to rest, repair, and recharge.
Regular Health Screenings: Scheduling regular check-ups and screenings with healthcare professionals can help detect potential health issues early and prevent complications.
PLAY: Allowing time and energy to do things that invite seemingly purposelessness and inherently pleasurable engagement is an investment in one’s physical, mental, and emotional health. Whether it’s through structured activities or spontaneous moments of fun, making time for play is key to living vibrantly.
Mindful Eating: Practicing mindful eating involves paying attention to your body’s hunger and fullness cues, eating slowly, and savoring each bite. This can help prevent overeating and promote a healthy relationship with food.
Balanced Diet: Consuming a variety of nutrient-rich foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats, supports overall health and provides the body with essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Limiting Alcohol and Tobacco: Minimizing alcohol consumption and avoiding tobacco products can reduce the risk of developing various health conditions, including liver disease, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers.
Regular Exercise: Engaging in physical activity on a regular basis, such as yoga, walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, or participating in sports, helps to maintain cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and boost mood. This can include PLAY!
Social Connections: Nurturing relationships with friends, family, and community members can provide emotional support, reduce feelings of loneliness, and contribute to overall happiness and well-being.
Continuous Learning: Engaging in lifelong learning and intellectual stimulation through reading, taking courses, or pursuing hobbies can promote cognitive health and keep the mind sharp.
Gratitude: Cultivating a mindset of gratitude and abundance may just be the most important lesson we learn.
Benefits of Intentional Self-Care
Overall, self-care is a holistic approach to health and well-being that emphasizes the importance of nurturing oneself physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, spiritually, and professionally. By prioritizing self-care practices, we can enhance resilience, reduce stress, improve quality of life, and cultivate greater overall happiness and fulfillment.
Incorporating these habits into your daily routine can help you lead a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life. It’s important to start small, set realistic goals, and gradually build upon your habits over time for long-lasting success.

Thank you for an absolutely fantastic class today. I don’t have the vocabulary to express how it made me feel but it was one of those classes that reminds you why you do yoga. You are an amazing teacher and a facilitator of personal growth in others. Thank you again.

Kimberlyn, I love the way you teach. I can close my eyes, and you are able to make us aware of every little movement that needs to happen. My body always responded to the sound of your voice. You have a real knack, especially for beginners and those with limited abilities.

Kimberlyn has guided me in learning so much about myself. She has helped me recognize my own strength, truth, and acceptance. I have enjoyed the Women’s Circle she leads where I have learned many life skills and made life-long friendships. Thank you, Kimberlyn!

I always think I am alone in my feelings and experiences, but everyone out there is holding on to crap or trying to move through it, everyone wants an authentic life that expresses their purpose. It helps to take the journey with the support of others. I lay open my heart and invite you to see all of me. I want to experience you in return, to share with you as you move toward joy!

Life’s Work Yoga is a STELLAR practice regardless of your ability or interest in yoga from no experience to guru. Recently, I have enjoyed having their team of instructors come to Hood College to donate much-needed yoga breaks for our whole community (students, faculty & staff). Their approach and philosophy aligns well with mine, and I love their “gentle yoga” sessions on campus that engage any skill level. A great local business to visit for some self-care!
